Odíhg J̼oyshàcu (/ˈj̼ojʃə/ /cu/ [series] [funny]) is a subtropical Town located in Vïpiglolïnd Hold, Lashfi̊f Provence, within the Tauranian United Provinces.

The name Odíhg J̼oyshàcu is derived from the Tauric language, as Odíhg J̼oyshàcu was founded by Slekkaa Probert, who was culturaly Tauric.

Climate

Odíhg J̼oyshàcu has a yearly average temperature of 23°C (73°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 30°C (86°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 16°C (60°F). Odíhg J̼oyshàcu receives an average of 266 cm/y (104 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Odíhg J̼oyshàcu covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 1456 m (4776 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Odíhg J̼oyshàcu was founded durring the early 10th century, by Slekkaa Probert. The establishment of Odíhg J̼oyshàcu was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Slekkaa Probert struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Odíhg J̼oyshàcu as a prison colony.

Odíhg J̼oyshàcu was built using the conventions of Tauric durring the early 10th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Odíhg J̼oyshàcu is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Odíhg J̼oyshàcu is buildings are arranged arround a network of spacious paverstone streets which form a grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town is protected by a humble stone fence which is tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. The peasent-grade has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

A look around Odíhg J̼oyshàcu makes it abundantly clear the town suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had. Everyone quietly goes about their daily business not looking anyone in the eye.

Cultural Notes

A substantial minority of the locals are descended from foreigners alien to their local neighbors. They may have been religious exiles, economic migrants, indigenous locals surrounded by the existing polity, or a foreign settlement conquered within the relatively recent past. The locals may not be enthusiastic about being ruled by others not of their kind, and their neighbors may look askance at the way foreign customs or even laws may be maintained.

Odíhg J̼oyshàcu's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known primarily for its use of abstraction and simplicity. Clean lines, right angles, and primary colors characterized this aesthetic and art movement expressed via architecture and paintings. Its design ethos allows only primary colors and non-colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight and horizontal or vertical lines. Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements. These seemingly impossible principals for an architectural style coalesces into structures which most experts find hard to put into words. It is not that their geometry is impossible, but rather the style's attempt at producing works only describable visually was most successful..
